Cows on Parade! (La Jolla)

Ten years after a herd of colorful cows first appeared on the streets of Chicago, the world renowned exhibit has 'mooo-ved' (sorry, but it had to be done!) on to the streets of La Jolla, this past summer. And with the CowParade combining unique art with raising money for good causes, Zoey was sure to be involved!

The exhibit of handpainted, life-sized,fiberglass cows has made runs in over 50 cities including New York, Paris,Tokyo, and Mexico City. In total, the auctions of the Cowpieces have raised $25 million for numerous non-profit organizations. Past purchasers of the unusual art include Oprah Winfrey, Ringo Starr, and Princess Firyal of Jordan. As one of 40 local artists, Zoey has contributed his cow entitled "More Than One Way to Milk a Cow" (right). The three month Parade ran locally and then were auctioned off with proceeds going to benefit Rady Children’s Hospital and the Zoological Society, both of San Diego. To find out more about the show or purchase pieces, visit the CowParade's online store!

Type One Clothing

Type One GirlOver a decade ago Zoey was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes and in that time hs lifestyle and art has been thoroughly influenced by the disease. For years Zoey has worked closely with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to raise the awareness of the disease. By volunteering his time and talents, Zoey has helped to personally raise over $500,000 for a cure!

Zoey teamed up with fellow artist Dereck Cruz, whose daughter also suffers from type one diabetes, to start Type One Clothing, which combines art, music, and fashion to fight for a cure. Together their desire is to bring clothing and art that do not just catere to the diabetic lifestyle, but rather any lifestyle.

In addition to raising money and awareness through the sale of diabetes inspired clothing, art, bumper stickers, andother cool stuff, Type One Clothing has sponsored an ongoing one of a kind travelling art show 'Pre-Existing Condition' that Zoey has curated. More details can be found on Zoey's 'Art Shows' page here!

Political Posturing

HopeLessMy daughter was old enough to vote this past year. She was excited that the first presidential election she was able to participate in was full of historic moments. So when I heard the repeated theme of 'LESS' from the right, "Less government, Less taxes...", I was compelled to paint a portrait of Republican nomi As always I only hope to provoke thought, this piece can go either way. However, when partnered with the popular piece by my friend Shepard Fairey, the message in general, is a little more obvious. Enjoy! ~ your artist friend, zoey.
